Deep within the enchanting rolling hills, dwelt a young shepherd. His life was mostly unadulterated, and unsophisticated. His only responsibility was to tend to his herd of ewes.

Their gentle baas and the rustling of the gales through the solo tree on the hilltop were his main companions. Day upon day, looking out for his charges imbued in him a sense of calm satisfaction.

Yet, there were the occasional moments of isolation, when the shepherd boy would pine for company. In one such instance because of sheer tedium, the shepherd boy conceived a mischievous plot.

Stories of wolves prowling on sheep had been heard times and again in the town. So, the boy decided to used this fear and played a prank on the townsfolk.

One day he raced into the village shouting “Wolf! A wolf is attacking my sheep!” The terrified website villagers rushed up the hills to offer assistance but saw nothing threatening.

The boy laughed at the puzzle on their faces. This game laughed for a few more days. However, one day, a real wolf actually come to prey the flock. The shepherd boy dashed for help, screaming “Wolf, Wolf!” But this time, no one showed up.

Frustrated and alone, the boy battled against the wolf but could rescue only few of his sheep. Devastated, he returned to the town only to be met with a lesson on honesty and the repercussions of false alarms.

His tale of this shepherd boy has been passed down generations as a mediaeval parable to teaching the importance of honesty, the consequences of lying and the risks of false alarms. Moreover, it stresses how trust once lost, is difficult to regain. It's a story as pertinent today as it was anciently.
